BDCU The Collective Impact Leads the Way in Housing for Essential Workers
A Place to Call Home
The Collective Impact- Essential Workers Accommodation Program
Addressing a Critical Need in the Southern Highlands and Tablelands
In the heart of our vibrant Southern Highlands and Tablelands, a quiet but urgent crisis is unfolding. Essential workers—the everyday heroes who educate our children, care for our loved ones, and safeguard our communities—are being priced out of the towns they serve. Rising property prices and limited rental availability are forcing many to live far from their workplaces, straining their wellbeing and weakening the resilience of our community.
The Collective Impact: Turning Challenges into Solutions
At The Collective Impact, we don't just identify challenges—we take action. That’s why we’ve launched the Our Place program: a bold, practical solution to the housing crisis facing our essential workers. BDCU has proudly acquired an 8-unit complex exclusively for local essential workers, providing secure, affordable accommodation close to their workplaces.
The Collective Impact has purchased eight residential units to offer to essential workers in the NSW Southern Highlands at below-market rental, ensuring they can live and work locally.
Through the joint efforts of The Collective Impact and Community Bank BDCU, we will seek to be catalyst for solutions and advocacy that provides our local essential workers with a place to call home.
This initiative is more than bricks and mortar—it’s about creating stability, fostering community connection, and ensuring our essential workers can live and thrive in the towns they work so hard to support.

The Impact: Building a Stronger Community
Strengthened Community Resilience: Keeping essential workers living locally protects the social and economic fabric of the Southern Highlands, ensuring our towns remain vibrant and self-reliant.
Economic Empowerment: Stable, affordable housing allows essential workers to focus on their vital roles without the burden of housing insecurity, benefiting the entire community.
Relief from Commute Stress: By living closer to their workplaces, essential workers reclaim valuable time and ease financial strain, improving their overall wellbeing and enabling them to better serve our community.
